Beginner guide

New to Find a Gem? This guide gets you from your first dig to your first rebirth.

Dig

Walk onto any ground in a zone and hold the dig button (mouse, touch or controller trigger). A bar fills up, and when it is full you find a gem. Let go early and the dig simply stops, with no penalty.

Every spot in a zone rolls the same odds, so dig wherever you like. Keep holding the button and your next dig starts by itself.

Sell

Gems go into your backpack. When it is full, new gems are lost, so sell before that happens. You get a warning when your backpack is almost full.

Rarer gems sell for much more. Check any gem's odds and value on the zones pages.

Spend your coins

• Shovels dig faster and add luck. See shovels.
• Backpacks hold more gems between trips to sell.
• Upgrades add luck and dig speed a little at a time. See upgrades.
• New zones have rarer, more valuable gems. Each one after the Meadow costs coins and asks you to find a number of different gems first.

Hatch pets

Every zone has an egg you can hatch with coins. Pets boost your luck, coins or dig speed. Every egg pet can be fused: three of the same Common, Uncommon, Rare or Epic pet make that egg's pet one tier up, and three Legendaries or Secrets make a Golden, then a Rainbow, then a Prismatic version. Rebirth

When you have enough coins you can rebirth. You start fresh, but you keep a permanent boost to luck, sell value and dig speed. Your first rebirth also unlocks auto dig. Later islands need a number of rebirths to open. See rebirths.

Tips

• Upgrade your shovel early. Faster digs mean more rolls, and more rolls mean more rare gems.
• Sell often so you never lose a gem to a full backpack.
